Competitive Winter Picnicking at Fort Greene Park

On Saturday, February 5, 2022, Shadow Traffic’s Competitive Winter Picnicking took place in Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn, NY in bitterly cold weather.

Participants created teams with themes and had to come up with drinks and food to serve along with games to play in order to win cash prizes in the following categories: “Mostest Thematic Team,” “Richest Picnic Meal,” “Funnest Picnic Game,” and “Bestest Picnic Drink”. There were teams such as Yaku’ZA (which made pizza and gave back massages with a rolling pin; their pizza oven came in quite handy to help keep hands warm), Meataverse (a Metaverse but involving meat), The Merry Mary Martyr Makers (their game was naturally jousting), Happy Hour/Sad Hour (the sad hour included a sad person listening to R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” for an hour and serving raw onions, burnt toast, and a bottle of O’Doul’s; the happy hour game was karaoke), Dumpling Team (visiting their area meant being wrapped in many layers of blankets and being fed dumplings), two teams serving mushroom cupcakes (Fairy House and Go Big or Go Gnome), and others.
