Bikini Kill and Jim Andralis and the Syntonics at Irving Plaza

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, Bikini Kill headlined a sold out concert at Irving Plaza, completing their two night stand in New York City. For the second show, they were joined by Jim Andralis and the Syntonics as the opening act.

Unlike 2019, I was able (and thankful) to attend multiple Bikini Kill shows on this tour (that year, I left town the very next morning to attend a wedding and go on vacation so I missed their additional shows at Terminal 5 and Kings Theatre). During their performance last night, Kathleen mentioned performing on the same stage at Irving Plaza with Le Tigre and The Julie Ruin, which I later realized I had attended both of these shows at the same venue and happened to capture them.

Bikini Kill’s set covered their various releases again and began with “Carnival.” The song, “For Only” that appears on Reject All American was dedicated to NYC musician Sam Jayne (Love as Laughter) who passed away two years ago. Other songs from that particular record that were performed were “Jet Ski,” “Distinct Complicity,” and the title track. Their two song encore of “Double Dare Ya” and “Suck My Left One” completed the show that ended before midnight.

Photos from Bikini Kill’s performance the night before at The Rooftop at Pier 17 are available here, and their Brooklyn Steel show in 2019 are available here.
