On Thursday, March 23, 2023, the tour in celebration of Jill Scott’s debut record, Who Is Jill Scott: Words and Sounds, Vol. 1 came to Kings Theatre. The album was released in July 2000 and a tour was scheduled for 2020, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic by three years.

Scott was joined by DJ Diamond Kuts, Adam Blackstone (who previously served as her musical director), and Mona, a.k.a. DontCallMeWhiteGirl, who did a comedy set and is from the same neighborhood as Jill Scott, North Philadelphia.

I last saw Scott during this event nearly twenty years ago, so it was wonderful (and an honor) to finally capture her performance in such a beautiful space.
