“Brown Sugar” screening and more at Lena Horne Bandshell

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!’s conclusion of their free hip-hop weekend took place with a screening of the 2002 film, Brown Sugar, plus a women in hip-hop ceremony honoring April Walker, Latisha Daring, Emily Anadu, and Asmeret Berhe Lumax, and a Fireside Chat with Antoine Hardy and New York Times’ Culture Reporter, Joe Coscarelli. There were also DJ sets by DJ Quinnette, and an introduction to the film by Reg Wyns, who appears in Brown Sugar.

I was the house photographer for the event and images from the event appear in the gallery above, plus BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn’s Instagram page here. Photos from the previous night featuring live sets from Digable Planets, Kari Faux, Wiki, and DJ Donwill are available here.
