BWP x Flickr and SmugMug “Light in Motion” contest
I’m so excited to announce that I’m part of a judging panel that will award a grant of $2,500 to a member of Black Women Photographers and Flickr, a website that I’ve used to share my images since 2004, the year it was launched. The theme of the contest is “Light in Motion,” and was inspired by a photo of June McDoom that I took at her record release show back in late May.
The contest details appear below and entries are being accepted between now and October 6th. Best of luck to everyone who enters this contest!
We’re excited to officially announce our second grant in partnership with Flickr! With this grant we hope to help a photographer from both the Black Women Photographers and Flickr communities to further hone their photography skills.
The grant includes funds of $2,500 to be used by the recipient towards furthering their photography practice. It also includes a two-year Flickr Pro membership, as well as a one-year SmugMug Pro membership. Ten additional recipients will each receive a one-year Flickr Pro membership and one-year SmugMug Pro membership.
In order to be eligible for the grant you must:
Be a member of the Black Women Photographers community
Submit a photo aligned with the theme of “Light in Motion” to the Black Women Photographers group on Flickr (here’s how to submit a photo to a group)
Explain why the photo you chose stands out to you
Be an active member on Flickr (completing the step above fulfills this requirement!)
Since our July 2020 inception, Black Women Photographers has given out over $131,000 USD in grants to Black creatives worldwide. We're grateful to have partners who believe in BWP. Applications for this initiative will close on October 6th, 2023.
