United Musicians and Allied Workers Presents Living Wage for Musicians featuring Yo La Tengo, Slaughter Beach, Dog, and more at Elsewhere
On Sunday, March 31, 2024, United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) presented a show at Elsewhere in Brooklyn, NY featuring live performances by Yo La Tengo, Slaughter Beach, Dog, The Ophelias, and Christelle Bofale. The event was done to celebrate the “Living Wage for Musicians Act” which was introduced by Reps. Rashida Tlaib and Jamaal Bowman to Congress which would pay royalties to all artists who have their music streamed online. To bring attention to the bill, UMAW presented five shows around the US in various cities and the NYC edition took place on Sunday evening featuring sets by Yo La Tengo, Slaughter Beach, Dog, The Ophelias, and Christelle Bofale. In addition to the performances, there were tables from other organizations such as Artists Against Apartheid, and Party for Socialism and Liberation.
Some images that I created for UMAW on Sunday night are available above, and to learn more about UMAW, please check out their website here. You can also contact your elected officials to ask them to support the bill at this link.
There are two remaining UMAW presented events that will take place tonight (Wednesday, April 3rd) in Ypsilanti, MI at 4/3 Ypsilanti at Ziggy’s (with Dr. Pete Larson with Fred Thomas, Jib Kidder, and Michael C. Sharp), and on April 18th in Wahsington, D.C. at Black Cat (with Yasmin Williams, Dior Ashley Brown, and @).
