Solar Eclipse at Marsha P. Johnson State Park on April 8, 2024

People gathered in Marsha P. Johnson State Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to check out the solar eclipse during the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024. The park offered modified binoculars, a telescope, and eclipse glasses for people to view the first total eclipse in New York state in 99 years. New York City wasn’t in the field of complete totality like other parts of the state, but we were able to view up to 90% during the maximum period that began at 3:25PM. Not everyone used glasses to view the eclipse; I came across one person who used a mirrorball to reflect eclipse shadows on the ground and on the back of someone’s jacket.

I documented some of the people who came out to witness the eclipse in the above gallery on my digital camera and on 35mm film.
