Newtown Radio’s 15th anniversary

During the Labor Day holiday weekend, Newtown Radio celebrated their 15th anniversary with special broadcasts, plus an event at Xanadu Roller Arts on Sunday, September 1, 2024.

On Saturday, August 31st, Eric and I returned to the Newtown Radio studio from 3-5PM to interview an artist STEFA*, who we saw perform earlier this year at Starr Bar in Brooklyn. Our radio show ended eight years ago, so this was our first time broadcasting in their current space in the Danbro building (our sessions were done in another space in the same building). And our return session at 3PM on 8/31 was incredibly scheduled after their rebroadcast of Björk’s 2015 episode. We’re so thankful to Mark Brinda for fondly remembering the show & asking us back for another episode where we could interview stefa, plus have our friend Tiffany introduce us to some K pop songs, and somehow follow Björk, an artist that I really love.

The following evening, Eric and I headed to Xanadu for the Newtown 15th Anniversary celebration at the recently opened roller rink & venue space in Bushwick. The event featured a live performance by Strangers Live (Fatboi Sharif, 89, Kohai, and Boogaveli), and DJ sets by Délé, FLWRSHRK, & Marvelito, and naturally, roller skating.

If you missed the return of the Audio Imposition, you can listen to the whole episode below, and photos that I captured during our broadcast and at Xanadu Roller Arts the following day can be found in the above gallery. Happy 15th birthday to Newtown Radio!
