On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, NYC acts Girls Against Boys (a.k.a. GVSB) and MAAFA performed at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

GVSB are currently wrapping up their short east coast tour with MAAFA which will come to an end this weekend in Washington, DC for the 40th anniversary celebration of Positive Force. All four members are originally from DC, and 3/4ths of the group were in Soulside prior to GVSB. I captured Girls Against Boys last night for Bowery Presents and that gallery can now be found on “The House List.” Guitarist/singer Scott McCloud gave a shout out to Bowery Presents during their performance, noting that they played Bowery Ballroom 30 years ago (I caught them performing at that venue back in 2007). Scott now resides in Vienna, Austria and stated that he’s required to play violin now (being the hometown of Mozart, naturally) and began to play the instrument extremely poorly before the group launched into the final song of the show, “Kill the Sexplayer,” which was featured on the soundtrack to the 1994 film, Clerks. This was their first live performance here since 2022, and my first time documenting them since 2016. GVSB’s setlist comprised songs mostly of their Touch & Go Records years, along with a cover by Joy Division (“Insight”).

I’ve been a fan of GVSB since I caught them opening for Garbage at Roseland (RIP) in October 1998 and very pleased to report that they’re still a great live band nearly three decades later.
