On Saturday, August 8, 2026, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! celebrated the Brooklyn born artist Aaliyah with the first ever Aaliyah Day in Prospect Park. The free show featured speakers Ralph McDaniels, April Walker, Taja Cheek (who also directed the music for the show), and LaChelle Chrysanne. A live band composed of Tariq Al-Sabir (who also sang), Evan Lawrence, Dillon Treacy, Key Hutchinson, KAYANA, and Natalie Louis-Charles supported vocalists Res, serpentwithfeet, Halima, Anajah, and Motherboard. There were also DJ sets from albertoreyes and Honey Bun. Attendees were encouraged to wear Aaliyah inspired looks and could enter a contest to win clothing from Karl Kani.
