On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, billy woods and Preservation headlined Elsewhere Rooftop in Brooklyn, NY in support of Aethiopes which was released back in April. They were joined by a supporting act, Contour, and a few special guests helped celebrate the album.

In addition to songs from the new record, woods performed older material such as “Spongebob” from Hiding Places (his 2019 record with Kenny Segal), “Western Education is Forbidden” from Terror Management released in the same year, and was joined by Fielded. For material from Aethiopes, Elucid, Quelle Chris (“NYNEX”), Despot (“Versailles”), and Breeze Brewin (“Heavy Water”; who woods described as one of the greatest rappers of all time and made him perform multiple verses) also appeared on stage. Before the show, I wondered if Despot would perform and was very grateful that he did. I think the last time I took photos of him was when he opened for Run The Jewels at Stage 48 in 2014 and woods joked that we should tell our kids that we saw Despot live but they wouldn’t believe us.
