Knitting Factory Brooklyn 2009-2022

On June 17, 2022, Knitting Factory Brooklyn announced they will close their doors on Sunday, August 21st.

The venue opened on Wednesday, September 9th with a comedy set from Hannibal Buress (who would be the first host of their weekly Sunday night comedy series, Comedy at the Knitting Factory) and Les Savy Fav. Although I attended their first show in their new space, I was unsure of the camera policy so I didn’t bring my camera with me on the first night (there are pics from the opening night by Tim Griffin on BrooklynVegan here). On the following night, Boss Hog played with Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers and I rectified my mistake from the night before by bringing my camera.

I haven’t attended an event at Knitting Factory in a while but I always enjoyed the shows that I went to. I saw quite a few acts in that small room who would go on to headline much larger ones later (Danny Brown, Vic Mensa, and Mitski immediately come to mind).

Thanks to Knitting Factory to relocating from lower Manhattan to Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2009 and hopefully they’ll reopen their doors somewhere else in NYC. According to an interview with Brooklyn Magazine, they do have something in the works locally and it’s a shame they’re closing again due to a massive rent hike.

Below is an attempt to list the shows I’ve documented there by year.
