Le Tigre and Shamir at Brooklyn Steel
On Friday, July 28, 2023, Le Tigre played the penultimate show of their reunion tour at Brooklyn Steel in Brooklyn, NY. For their second night of their stand at the venue, they were joined by Philadelphia’s Shamir, who performed an opening set promptly at 8PM.
Shamir began with the first song from their upcoming record, Homo Anxietatem, called “Oversized Sweater.” The title of the album translates to “anxious man” and will be released in a few weeks on August 18th (Shamir will be playing a record release show at Knitting Factory at Baker Falls on the same date). Shamir was accompanied by a bassist and drummer while playing guitar and singing. They also closed their opening set with a song released in 2020, “On My Own.”
Unlike the previous night, Le Tigre came out to no introduction, immediately launching into “The the Empty,” to the room singing loudly and dancing along, despite a heatwave. The security team at the venue continually handed out bottles of water to fans up front throughout the night.
The set for the second show was similar to the night before with two different songs: “Les & Ray” and “Punker Plus,” with the former being performed for the first time in a long time.
Kathleen, Johanna, and JD perform in their hometown one more time tonight.
