Masta Ace with Marco Polo and MIKE at BRIC House
On Thursday, September 14, 2023, Wax Poetics and Brooklyn Brewery teamed up for a second event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip hop at BRIC House in downtown Brooklyn. There were live performances by Masta Ace (who was backed by producer Marco Polo, also joined by Strick, and came on stage to the theme from “Cheers”), and MIKE (who was backed by TAKA), limited edition merchandise featuring The Notorious B.I.G. for sale, plus complimentary stickers, earplugs, and lighters, DJ sets before the live performances, and attendees received a drink ticket for Brooklyn Brewery’s Brooklyn Lager, which was released in honor of hip-hop’s 50th birthday and the brewery’s 35th anniversary. Fans in attendance were also given a free copy of an issue of Wax Poetics which features Biggie on the cover.
The show was hosted by rapper/DJ/podcaster Donwill who ended up inviting two audience members named Isaac and Baba on stage to beatbox while he and Rob Cave freestyled. Images that I captured of the very fun show can be found in the above gallery.
Wax Poetics has a recap of their two events that includes some of my images from night two available here.
